An exciting crop of contemporary artists from Africa, curated by MoMA expert Ugochukwu-Smooth C. Nzewi, artist, art historian and specialist in modern and contemporary African and African Diaspora arts.
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? celebrates the growing impact of African art on the global stage and serves as a crucial platform for visibility in New York. The exhibition introduces the work of twelve African artists: Aida Muluneh, Amalia Ramanankirahina, Amina Menia, Beatrice Wanjiku, Chika Modum, Chike Obeagu, Ephrem Solomon Tegegn, Gopal Dagnogo, Halida Boughriet, Onyeka Ibe, Sam Hopkins, and Uche Uzorka.
This 2015 groudbreaking exhibition examined the idea of progressive globalization within the art world by way of the escalating presence of African artists around the world. With that idea in mind, the show was curated to introduce 12 African artists who have yet to be catapulted into the New York art scene. The catalog essay was written by the show's curator; Ugochukwu-Smooth C. Nzewi. Works were presented by: Halida Boughriet, Gopal Dagnogo, Sam Hopkins, Onyeka Ibe, Amina Menia, Chika Modum, Aida Muluneh, Chike Obeagu, Amalia Ramanankirahina, Ephrem Solomon, Uche Uzorka, and Beatrice Wanjiku.
